How to apply for OTTO Market

We process all applications individually and check the basic requirements and basic capabilities for each retailer. We do this to offer you a fair marketplace of high quality. As soon as you have applied as a seller on otto.market and you meet all the necessary criteria, you will receive an e-mail from us with the login data for our partner portal OTTO Partner Connect. Our step-by-step guide will take you through the application process.

Step by step instructions

1. Application

Apply as a seller for OTTO Market using the registration form.

We review each application individually before we enable a connection to otto.de. We do this to offer you a fair marketplace of high quality.

After your application, you will be notified by us how things will proceed for you.

2. Access to OTTO Partner Connect

If your application was successful, you will receive an email with your login details for our partner portal OTTO Partner Connect, and you can start with the connection.

In order to protect the use of the partner portal and the data that can be accessed there on a user-specific basis, authentication is required to confirm the identity of the individual user. In this way, you are protected if someone else tries to log in with your login data. Every time you log in, you have to authenticate yourself with a second factor after entering your login data. You have to configure this factor the first time.

3. Two-factor authentication setup

Two-factor authentication increases the protection of your account and ensures that only you can access your account, even if someone else knows your password.

For this purpose, please install the corresponding authentication app on your smartphone or tablet and use the barcode scanner included in the app to scan the barcode shown.

We recommend one of the following apps for authentication:

Google Authenticator
FreeOTP Authenticator

After the activation, you must enter a six-digit security code generated via the authentication app in addition to the password every time you log in.

4. Agreement to the contracts

At the start of the onboarding process, OTTO requires your agreement to the contracts. This includes agreement to the terms of use with Otto GmbH & Co. KGaA as well as agreement to the payment service framework agreement with OTTO Payments GmbH.

On the contract page in the partner portal, the company name and VAT identification number with which you registered will be displayed to you. Please check these for accuracy and that they are up to date before agreeing to the contracts.

OTTO will compare the information you provided with the information stored with the German Federal Central Tax Office (BZSt).

5. Information for the legitimation check

To complete the legitimation check by OTTO Payments, you need to enter the following legitimation information:

Details about the applicant
Upload documents (e.g., proof of bank account, power of attorney for the application, articles of association, etc.)
Details about your company
Details about payment data
Details about legally authorized representatives
Details about beneficial owners

6. Legitimation check by OTTO Payments

The legitimation check can take up to 15 business days. You can track the status of your connection at any time in the partner portal. The legitimation check includes four individual checks: company identification, credit check, personal identification, and risk classification.

The personal identification must be performed by a person who is legally authorized to represent the company. For this, an internet-enabled device with a camera and a valid ID card or passport are required.

After successful completion of the legitimation check, you will have full access to the partner portal. Please note that the monthly base fee will be charged from the successful connection to OTTO Payments.

7. Completing your company information

In addition to the information already entered for the legitimation check, we require further company information from you. This includes:

Supplementary tax information, such as the business identification number and your tax number
Supplementary information for the legal notice (Impressum), such as the seller name with which you want to appear on OTTO
Details on legal requirements, such as the system participation of your packaging, old appliance return, and the FSC sustainability seal
Contact details, such as the email address via which you would like to receive future contract updates or customer inquiries

8. Providing your logistics information

In addition, we need information about your shipping and returns processes. This includes the shipping service providers you use for parcel and freight shipping, as well as the corresponding shipping costs.

Furthermore, it is required that at least one shipping profile is created. This profile must contain information about the shipping method, processing time, cut-off time, your working days, and the transport time.

The shipping profiles offer you the possibility to individually and flexibly design your delivery times in order to achieve the highest delivery accuracy and sustainably increase the satisfaction of our customers.

9. Product creation and test order

You can either add the items manually using the partner portal or upload all product details via the OTTO Market API.

After you have successfully created your first product, you can carry out a test order. We recommend that you do this to get to know the entire order process from the customer's point of view and to understand our systems and processes.

Initially, your sales ability is still limited. This means that your products are not yet displayed in the OTTO app and on the OTTO website.

10. Let's Get Started

After you have completed or skipped the test order, your products can be ordered on OTTO by clicking on "Start Selling Now."
